How to install WordPress theme from Dashboard?
You can install WordPress theme from dashboard by uploading the theme file or also you can search, find and install the theme. I am going to explain both of the methods. Because if you are looking for a free theme, you can download it directly from your dashboard, by searching on WP Themes Directory. You can’t install premium themes by searching from dashboard, Premium themes can only be installed by uploading the zip file. First i am going to explain the theme installation by searching from dashboard on WP Themes directory.
Install Theme from WP Themes Directory:
Login to your WP Dashboard >> Go to Appearance >> Click on Themes >> Now on themes page click on Install Themes.
Now if you know the name of the theme, you can search for it. Or you can use any keyword like two column, three column or by the name of color like blue, orange , greet etc
Lets suppose you want to download theme in blue color search for Blue. And you will find tons of themes. Go and preview the themes you like. Once you find the theme you looking for click on install now.
Once the theme installed, you can check the live preview of the theme on your blog without showing it to your readers, and you can activate it from your Appearence >> Themes Panel.
Go to Themes, Find the newly installed theme and click on Activate button.
Install Premium Theme by uploading:
I hope you have downloaded the premium theme from any theme marketplace listed above. The theme will be in zip format. I have purchased Jarida Theme from ThemeForest.
Login to your Dashboard >> Go to Appearance >> Click on Themes >> Click on Install Themes >> Click on Upload.
Click on choose file and Select the Theme Zip file from your PC, and once the theme is upload click on Activate theme.
How to install WordPress theme from FTP Client?
Installing WordPress theme from FTP client is useful, when your server doesn’t allow you to install theme from dashboard. Or you are getting some errors from Dashboard while installing theme. It is also useful when you want to install multiple themes at a time. To install theme from FTP Client, You required to extract the theme files.
Now login to FileZilla FTP client or any FTP client you using. Once you logged in, go to the directory [highlight]public_html >> wp-content >> themes[/highlight]. This is the default theme directory of WordPress. Now drag the new unzipped theme folder to the Server Themes folder. Have a look on the screen shot below.
Ok Filezilla will start uploading your theme to the Server. Once it is done Go the dashboard >> Appearance >> Themes. There you can find newly installed theme. You can preview it privately or you can activate it to make it live.
